Sport for Peace

In March 2025, WPESS organized a football tournament held over two days in Obbo Payam, Magwi County, one of the areas hardest hit by conflict, where insecurity, mistrust, and displacement had strained relationships between neighboring communities.

The tournament brought together 325 players from six bomas (Labato, Lowudo, Alia, Lerwa, Cama, and Licari), including 150 women playing alongside 150 men, with 25 community leaders taking part and more than 1,000 spectators attending. Matches were organized so women could take part in a supportive environment where they felt safe, motivated, and empowered.

Partners: GIZ South Sudan, the Community-Driven Rural Development (CDRD) project, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the Magwi County Local Football Association.
